Calls to this service are free from landlines and mobile phones.

We have started the use of SMS appointment reminders to those of you who have mobile telephones. When booking an appointment you will receive 1 SMS within 30 minutes to say an appointment has been made, then you will receive a reminder SMS 48 hours before your appointment day and time. 

It is important that we have your correct mobile phone number, so if you have changed your number recently then please let the practice know so that your registrations details can be updated.

If you wish not to receive SMS reminders then please come in to the surgery and complete and ‘opt out’ form. 

The practice was losing approximately 30 hours of clinical time per month through patients not attending appointments, so we hope that the SMS reminder will go some way in reducing ‘Did not Attend’ rates and will hopefully free up appointments to those who need them.

Flu Vaccination  (2013 clinic dates not avialable yet)

All patients over the age of 65, and all patients of any age with COPD, significant lung disease, any heart disease, chronic renal or liver disease, previous stroke or TIA, diabetes or any condition that can suppress the immune system (including pregnancy), should be vaccinated every single year.

We would also ask that if you have a flu jab administered some where else, then please inform the surgery so that we may update your medical record.

We look forward to seeing as many people as possible in our autumn clinics, and remember by having your flu jab you  ‘Protect Yourself and Protect Others!’

Please note that our Nurses DO NOT do blood tests other than a limited amount of Warfarin tests by appointment only, which they do to help out the blood clinic.

Please DO NOT ask to make an appointment with a Practice Nurse for a routine blood test.

If you need to have a test carried out then ask the Receptionist, who will give you a list of available local clinics where you can have routine blood tests carried out.  If you do attend an alternative clinic then please DO NOT forget to take your Blood Test Request Form. The pneumococcal vaccination, also known as the pneumo jab, provides protection against pneumococcal infections.

Pneumococcal infections are caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae, which is sometimes referred to as the pneumococcus bacterium. There are many different strains (types) of the bacterium that can cause a number of conditions, including:

¨    pneumonia - inflammation (infection) of the lungs

¨    septicaemia - a form of blood poisoning from an infection in the blood

¨    meningitis - an infection of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord

A pneumococcal infection can affect anyone.

However, some groups of people have a higher risk of the infection developing into a serious health condition. These include:

¨    children who are under two years of age

¨    adults who are 65 years of age or over

¨    children and adults with certain chronic (long-term) health conditions, such as a serious heart or kidney condition

This vaccination is available all year round, so telephone the surgery to book an appointment for your pneumovax

Patient Alert

Our local hospitals are under immense pressure and we are all working to ensure that patients receive the most appropraite care and are not admitted to hospital unnecessarily. If you are experienceing chest pain which could be a heart attack or have stroke symptoms (see medical advice pages) you need to call 999 but if your problem is something else and you are unsure of the urgency of your illness please call the surgery and a doctor can advise you on the best course of action.
