The Evolving Times of General Practice

2 new systems have been released, which we hope will improve patient access.

Quick GP Message ©The Elms Practice 2016  is system created to be used either on-line via our website www.theelmspractice.co.uk or over the phone, or by filling in a short request at the reception desk, if it is felt that this is the appropriate option for you.

E-Consult is a web-based platform that enables patients to self-manage and consult online with their own GP through their practice website. Part of the functionality is integrated into the clinical software that we already use, so it is easy to use and auditable for patient safety and response times.

With eConsult, patients can use a symptom checker, self-manage, signpost to other services or complete an eConsult for one of 100 common General Practice conditions with their own GP at a time convenient to them, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In 2014, a six-month study examined the benefits of providing eConsult to 133,000 patients and resulted in a 400-hour reduction in GP appointment time.

E-Consult has shown that 60% of patients were able to resolve their health concerns without visiting a GP.

New Patients

The practice welcomes new patients. Registration can take place quite simply by asking one of our receptionists who will help you with the required documentation. The new GMS contract for GPs requires that you register with a practice but you are able to specify a preferred practitioner.

Temporary Patients

If relatives of friends require medical attention while staying with you we can treat them under the temporary resident system. Please tell the receptionist if a patient is a temporary resident. Conversely, if you require medical attention while outside our practice area, you can contact any doctor practising in that area and request to be treated as a temporary resident.

Practice Area

The practice area embraces the whole of Hayling Island – its boundaries are the sea and the waters of Langstone and Chichester Harbour.

Guide to GP Services

The Royal College of General Practitioners has produced a useful guide for patients about the services on offer at GP Surgeries and how to access them.  You can download the guide below.
